By now you are probably aware of the importance of exfoliation for a smoother, more radiant complexion, but you may not have heard of enzyme exfoliation before, or, if you have, you might not be sure why fruit enzyme peels are so beneficial and if they're right for your skin.
Fruit enzymes from pumpkin provide an excellent and thorough exfoliation, while still being gentle enough for individuals with sensitive skin. Along with enzymes, pumpkin provides the skin with an array of minerals, vitamins, essential fatty acids and alpha-hydroxy acids, that break down and remove dead skin cells while supplying your skin with nutrients, leaving it softer, smoother and with a beautiful glow!
Pumpkin enzymes alone provide the skin with excellent nutrition benefits, but here at Kate Ryan, we take it a step further and include enzymes from pineapple, papaya and even kiwi fruit to provide your skin with such a thorough exfoliation, everyone will be asking you what your beauty secret is!
Keep reading to find out if a fruit enzyme peel is right for you:
What is an enzyme mask and how does it work?
Fruit enzymes are natural chemicals that provide a thorough exfoliation but are usually gentler than rough scrubs or microdermabrasion treatments, which can be harsh, especially if you have sensitive skin. Enzymes, by their nature, do not penetrate deep into the skin, another quality that makes this type of peel effective, yet gentle.
The uppermost layer of skin is primarily made up of a protein called keratin. Enzyme peels work by hydrolyzing or breaking up this protein, removing dull, dry, damaged surface cells and impurities leaving you with softer, smoother skin.
What are the benefits of an enzyme peel for my skin?
Enzyme peels offer many beauty benefits for the skin. When the skin is effectively exfoliated, you enjoy brighter, more radiant and clearer looking skin.
Here are a few ways an enzyme peel can improve your skin:
- More even skin tone (less redness thanks to anti-inflammatory properties)
- Reduction in pore size
- Smoother skin with fewer lines and wrinkles
- A healthy glow
- Softer skin
- Hydrated Skin
- Plumper and more youthful complexion
Enzyme peels are an excellent defense against the signs of aging as they help to stimulate cell turnover, promoting the formation of collagen, and they help to soften and smooth existing fine lines and wrinkles. Enzyme peels help to really open up the pores allowing for better absorption of any products you apply after. Take advantage of this and apply a nutrient-rich serum full of antioxidants, as it will penetrate deep to target all your skin care concerns!
Our ingredients
Here’s a list of the powerful key active ingredients found in our Clearly Radiant Enzyme Peel, and why we added them.
Pumpkin Enzyme: Provides a natural and gentle exfoliation along with skin brightening antioxidant vitamins and minerals.
Bromelain: An enzyme from pineapple, bromelain helps to exfoliate the skin and rebuild collagen for a more youthful complexion. Also provides anti-inflammatory benefits.
Papain: Papaya fruit enzymes help to exfoliate, moisturize and repair skin.
Kiwi Fruit Extract: Provides exfoliation, skin brightening vitamin C, and prevents the loss of elasticity.
Aloe Vera Leaf: Helps to soothe and hydrate the skin.
Gotu Kola: Helps to keep the skin youthful by stimulating collagen production, as well as fighting off free radicals thanks to powerful antioxidant properties.
Hyaluronic Acid: Hyaluronic acid improves the smoothness and elasticity of your skin by replacing natural hyaluronic acid. Penetrates deeply to plump and smooth while replenishing skin's hydration.
Collagen Peptides: Peptides boost the anti-aging benefits of this mask by supplying the building blocks to strengthen and promote collagen. Collagen provides the springy, plump and smooth appearance we associate with youth and health.
Keep in mind that this peel works organically beneath the surface of the skin over a period of days, unlike harsh “instant” peels that contain rough particles that can irritate the skin. You will start to see wonderful results within a few days to a week after use, but in the meantime, potent antioxidants will help to fight off free radicals all day long, and protect your skin against the signs of aging!
How do I use a fruit enzyme mask?
Our mask is very simple to use, and takes just a few minutes. Before using an enzyme peel for the first time, we always recommend testing for sensitivity on your inner arm, especially if your skin is on the sensitive side.
Simply apply a thin layer of product to your inner arm and leave on for a few minutes (anywhere from 3-10 minutes), depending on the sensitivity of your skin. If no irritation occurs, you can go ahead and apply a thin layer to your face, neck and chest avoiding your eyes and lips. Leave on for roughly 5-10 minutes; everyone is different so the length of time all comes down to how sensitive your skin is. If you are very sensitive, 3-5 minutes should be enough, whereas if you aren’t sensitive at all you should be able to leave it on for up to 10 minutes.
For most skin types, we recommend doing a peel once per week.
Rinse thoroughly, pat dry and follow up with moisturizer, or sunscreen if heading outdoors.
